Strategies

What We Do

Since 2018, Liberation Health Strategies (LHS) has provided tailored consulting solutions to tackle today’s most urgent challenges. Founded by Dr. L. Toni Lewis, we are advocates for Health Justice and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), with a focus on underserved communities often overlooked in conventional wellness approaches. Our services include wellness activation circles, capacity-building dialogues, and rapid response to community violence, all aimed at fostering empowerment and holistic wellbeing.

Our mission is simple: we care for those who care for others, confront systemic harm, and foster communities built on care and justice. We reject performative DEI work that only checks boxes and perpetuates harm. Instead, we address both organizational infrastructure and the people involved, prioritizing meaningful, lasting change.

Each partnership integrates three core services: addressing the immediate needs of those harmed, confronting the systemic and cultural roots of that harm, and collaborating with leaders at all levels to build organizations and communities centered on care and justice.

  • In a world shaped by pandemics, political shifts, and social change, equity and inclusion are no longer optional. At LHS, we use diverse methods to create healing spaces, build trust, and facilitate authentic dialogue that drives meaningful institutional change. Grounded in our experience with historically marginalized communities, our approach has become integral to national and global health justice strategies. Services may include:

    • Listening Sessions

    • Small Group Workshops

    • Organization Retreats

    • Enterprise-wide Facilitation

  • Our asset-based approach helps connect the dots between strategy and healing. Whether through individual coaching or group facilitation, we collaborate with community members, staff, and leadership to foster collective growth.

    Services may include:

    • Individual Leadership Coaching with a Liberation Lens

    • Small Group Workshops and Group Coaching

    • Leadership Retreats

    • Enterprise-wide Facilitation

  • We believe in creating spaces where everyone can bring their full selves. We're dedicated to amplifying voices traditionally silenced, erased, or marginalized because we know that true transformation begins with inclusivity and empowerment.

Our holistic approach spans coaching, leadership development, strategic planning, innovation, medicine, spirituality, and the arts, ensuring our impact is profound and sustainable.

  • pronouns: she, her, hers

I am a licensed therapist, Reiki Master, Kemetic Yoga instructor, and meditation teacher. My approach is rooted in mindfulness, self-compassion, trauma healing, and connection to nature and ancient traditions. I help clients reclaim wellbeing and restore their knowing of themselves through therapy, Reiki, yoga, self-love, and ancestral connection.

With a foundation in clinical research and nearly a decade of impactful work with the NYC Health Department, I dedicated myself to addressing health disparities in central Brooklyn, specifically focusing on health equity issues and racial disparities. My extensive experience in research and population health unveiled the intricate interplay between environment, stress, and health outcomes, underscoring the urgent need for healing in my community and beyond.

Amidst my own challenges of overwork and unresolved trauma, I discovered a transformative path to self-restoration. Seeking solace in yoga, I found a grounding force that provided stability amid life's chaos. This practice became my anchor, initiating the healing journey for my body, mind, and spirit.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge, I delved into mindfulness and immersed myself in literature on healing and personal development. Nature became my sanctuary, offering therapeutic walks and hikes. Gratitude lists, laughter, and rediscovering joy marked the slow but steady recovery. Embracing self-care, learning to say no, cultivating new friendships, and actively loving myself were pivotal milestones.

My journey toward holistic well-being incorporated diverse modalities, including holistic nutrition, herbal medicine, Reiki, and meditation. Collaborating with skilled instructors and healers, I navigated these transformative practices with gratitude for the invaluable lessons each challenge presented.

Introduced to Reiki as a complement to my healing journey, I initially approached it skeptically. However, the profound shifts in my mood, energy, and sleep quality after just a few sessions dispelled my doubts. Embracing Reiki as a student, I received training and attunements, making it an integral part of my personal wellness and healing arsenal. Sharing this sacred practice with friends, family, and clients has become a source of immense joy.

In 2017, I embarked on a journey into Kemetic yoga, culminating in a 200hr yoga teacher training with Yirser Ra Hotep Lawrence, founder of the Yoga Skills School of Kemetic Yoga. This profound experience accelerated my spiritual and personal development, setting the stage for sharing these life-transforming tools as a yoga instructor.

My commitment to holistic care led me to pursue a Masters in Social Work at Columbia University, graduating in 2023. As a therapist, I draw on my personal journey, education, and clinical training to create a practice centered around holistic care, self-compassion, and empowerment.

Today, I find fulfillment in continuously evolving as both a healer and a learner. Acknowledging that my own transformative journey is ongoing, I approach each day with humility and gratitude. It is my sincere privilege to support others on their paths of healing, growth, and awakening.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Black Americans

A recent study found that disproportionately Black counties, a 22% share of the population, account for over half of the COVID-19 cases in the United States and almost 60% of the deaths. The pandemic’s exposure of deep gaps in overall health and health care access for Black Americans, as well as the disparate impact of the historic economic fallout, has led to increased focus on the intersections of race, class, and gender inequalities within the U.S.

This conversation explores the impact of COVID-19 on Black communities and examines how we can rebuild and better protect our communities, with faculty and alumni experts. Hosted by the Black Alumni of Georgetown and the Georgetown University Alumni Association, this discussion is moderated by Soyica Diggs Colbert, Ph.D. (C’01), Vice Dean of Faculty and Director of Arts Initiatives & Professor of African American Studies and Performing Arts.
